I've been going through all my cassettes and I think I may have found a previously unheard (Pre ZTT) version of Relax from around 1982!!
I've attached a copy of the "Kid Jensen" Demo which we all know about, but on another tape (with a Jayne Casey version of Two tribes) there is a version of "Relax" but it is just titled "Parr Street" to my ears it sounds different, I've attached the start of this version aswell for comparison, can you let me know what you think?
Track One - "Relax" Kid Jensen Version ---- Track Two - "Relax" Parr Street Version
I've tried overlaying the two with one inverted and I'm pretty sure the phase cancellation is too perfect to be anything other than a different playback of the same source. The differences are EQ / nose reduction, compression and playback speed only.
Here's a recording of "Two tribe"s from the "John Peel" cassette, then a recording of "Two tribes" from the "Parr street" cassette after for comparison, that same bass drum at the start of relax seems to be in the parr street version of two tribes
